The Pump

About the bilge pump I mentioned briefly yesterday, what do you think about this?

Either we will put it under the navigators berth, so it is possible to stand at the steering station and pump from the inside. Or we will put it in a deck box to use when on deck.

It is a big pump, so if we put it in the deck box we might have a spare hose for the intake to run over the side to be able to pump water from the outside to use as a fire pump, to wash deck etc.

But it will take up almost one compartment of the deck boxes. (They have three each side.)

Which would be the easiest place to access and use the pump? That would be the best place I think.

It will be possible to put your whole weight behind the pump strokes in either position. But do you want to be down bellow or up on deck if the boat is sinking? I suppose the right answer to that question is “it depends”.
