We have this German bamboo place. They can supply any bamboo we want at a much lower price than any other battens. The problem is that the 60-80 mm battens we want to use for the uppermost battens are only available by September. So maybe we will double up 45-50 mm battens until then. One at each side of the sail, for example. And then add thicker ones later, if needed. I don’t really trust the bamboo battens calculations anyway so experementing with different thicknesses might be the best way to deal with it.

    • If only you lived closer, I grow the stuff.
I’m building a 24′ 6″ yacht which I have decided to convert to junk rig. Having lots of fun learning how find the mast position etc.
You have beautiful boat there by the way.
      Good luck,
      Gary

    • Thanks Gary.
Bamboo seems to be a cheap way to get good junk rig battens, if it wasn’t for the shipping!
I have a Swedish connection that imports a container from China about once a year. So I will bring some with her next shipment, if the bamboo from Germany is shown to be inferior.
